  • Water Glass I (8x10)

    Colored Pencil on Drafting Film

Something as simple as a glass of water at a restaurant can blend color and light in unique ways. The atypical shape of the glass pulls color and angles light to produce the abstract appearance of this actual image.

2022 Honorable Mention CPSA Chapter Exhibition - Schaumburg, IL

  • Water Glass II (17.5 x 14)

    Colored Pencil on Sanded Paper

Second water glass study - this time from the top of a glass looking down. Similar to Water Glass I, the water and ice combined with the red, beaded glass creates an abstract illusion from an actual image.

  • Catching Some Rays (10x8)

    Colored Pencil on Drafting Film

This piece is a combination of two things that I really like, glass and sunlight. I chose the bottles to include mostly based on their label design and the color of the soda.

  • Flowers for Ali (9x9)

Colored Pencil on Canson drawing paper

This was part of a centerpiece for a relative’s bridal shower. Her sister is a talented florist and created it. I love the contrast of vibrant colors, soft grays and textures

  • Life is a Cabernet (16x21)

Colored Pencil on Clairefontaine Pastel Mat paper

Memories of gorgeous Napa and Sonoma Valleys of California. These grapes are from Goosecross Cellars in Yountville, one of our favorites. This is the largest piece that I have done in colored pencil so far.

  • Pink Lotuses (9x13)

Colored Pencil, Turpenoid, on Stonehenge paper

A trip to the Reiman Garden at Iowa State University inspired this piece. Frisket film was used to protect the flowers from the dark background until near completion. Drawing the flowers was the last step of this piece.

  • Stargazing (10.5x8.5)

    Colored Pencil on Stonehenge paper

This is the result of a white on white workshop. Even though the eye reads white there are many colors used to create this artwork.

2018 Midwest Color Exhibition - Detroit, MI

  • Pebble Beach 18 (20x14)

Colored Pencil, Pan pastel, OMS on Stonehenge paper

My golf fanatic son asked me to draw this for him. The spray of the water and the smoothness of the foreground were tricky.

  • Summertime (8x5)

Colored Pencil on Strathmore sketch paper

This is my first colored pencil piece completed after learning how to layer and blend colored pencil. The wooden bowl and sunlit background trees are my favorite areas of this piece.

  • Geneva Chocolate I (Cocoa Bean) (9x6)

Colored Pencil on black mat board

The town I live in has many wonderful chocolate shops. The Cocoa Bean has beautifully artistic yet delicious desserts. Additional pieces to come highlighting the other gourmet chocolate shops in town.

  • Sunset (Commission) (24x30)

    Pastel on Pastelmat paper

Good memories for a family who often visits Wisconsin with peaceful lake sunsets.
